Anyway I could get an upgrade in my vid card so i can raise my 20 fps to 125

According to speedfan, my fan runs at 4800 RPM and motherboard temp of 68 when playing quake. The result is a very noisy and hot computer. Is this normal?

Oh! Yippee, I have a problem too. I usually have a solid 125 fps. But for about a month now it randomly drops to about 20 for 10-20 seconds at a time. And during this sometimes I cant jump or shoot, or my railgun glitches and doesnt stop shooting until the fps goes back to normal. I have no idea what it could be, Ive changed cfgs, so it couldnt be a glitch. Wth? :/ Help would be amazing.

Well Spoon ..This usually happens to me in the summer as well, My fan will kick in while I'm playing any games. Basically the heat outside causes the CPU to be hotter than normal so when you play a game your increasing the work load on the CPU causing it to constantly having to cool itsself, But if this is a daily thing even when It's cool then your fan is most likely starting to die cause it can't cool the CPU enough anymore, You'd better invest in a new fan or you could fry the CPU. =]

how do i find out what vid card i have??lol

Lol, Go to Control panel, Switch to Classic veiw, Open System, Then Hardware tab, Then Device manager and tell me whats under the display adapter

I helped Cyn on Xfire ..All she needed was new drivers for her video card ..And vista isn't that bad

Ok i did both an upgrade and a downgrade lol.
I went to a p3 533 mhz with 256 ram
I then put in a BFG 6200 nvidia card with 256 mb vid ram pci only slot i got.
runs q3 fine with my old cfg but im looking for a prettier cfg but with high 125 fps.
Seems to move to fast even with 2.2 sens.
Still cant get used to a big keyboard ,that and it moves when im playing
I switched from a 2gig amd atholon laptop
Im going to get a ps2 keyboard since i dont want to use a usb port
Usb uses power i cant spare since my power supply is way underrated for the vid card
145 watt recomended is 250,ive even unlugged all unneeded drives ie cdrom floppy

The sound is way better than the laptops it had a ess while pc has soundblaster audio pci

In the long run It's not good to run under the correct power supply Comp ...My mouse settings in quake are /Sensitivity 1.5 with /in_mouse -1

Well if your 14 how come you can afford a ATi card thats 200 bucks alone plus your specs are prolly worth about 2500 at cheapest

I think was about $2200 or so. I do live in Australia BTW, I got parts from ebay. In america u could do it for like $1700. I have 2 pay for it all myself tho I do walk my next door neighbors dog and get paid...$200 a month

OMG a guy on Xfire is pissing me off!!!

He thinx that he needs a new motherboard to play COD4 LMAO!!! He needs a new gfx card. He doesnt realise that he will usually need different RAM, CPU and take out everything of the comp and reformat the computer! What makes it even worse is that hes getting his dad 2 pay 4 it! He's not even gonna build a new comp, just upgrade the mobo. But then he will need a new gfx card anyway. Hes gonna get his dad 2 go 2 pc store and get this all done. He will end up paying like $600 for $150 worth of stuff! What an idiot. DAM he pisses me off, hes such a n00b. He thinx that upgrading the mobo will make him b able 2 play COD4, when all he needs is a new gfx card. He said that the 'EXPERT' computer guys at the store said 'Your graphics card wont be supported by the game if u get 1 2 soon'. WTF! Like every game will b supported by 2day's gfx cards! All u'll get is less fps in games! ARRGH!

Well did you ever think that he had an older motherboard that did not support cards out of the PCI class? The minimal requirements for CoD 4 is A P4 2.8GHz, 512MB of RAM and a 6600 or ATi 1600XT or better card. Which are all either AGP or PCIe =] So in his case then a new mobo is nessicary. Shouldn't really make fun of him for not knowing much about PCs, Btw, the ATi 4870 is similar priced to that of the Nvidia 9800

So Mustang did you have any problems setting up your mobo, Cause I know enough to know that one didnt work straight out of the box
