It was the year 1971. There was a group of complete potheads that went to San Rafael High School (I think that was the name). They smoked pot ALL the time, but they needed a code so that they could talk about it around teachers without being caught. So, they would say "4:20" meaning meet at the school statue at 4:20 to smoke. Basically, a bunch of dirty potheads started this national holiday, and they are probably now in their 50's if they are still alive.
