Core i7

Hey all,

I'm planning on building on a new PC and wondering if you have built or bought one with i7, could you please share your configuration (mobo, video, mem, etc.).

I was thinking about:

Mobo: Gigabyte UD5
video: GTS 250
HDD: WD Caviar Black 1TB

i7 is a gaming proc with those specs u'll get 300 fps easy lol

I've heard good things about the i7. But I have never heard anything good about Western Digital Hard Drives. :/ I have one and it works good but, my 6 year old Corsair seems to have higher RPM.

5 gigs of rams? now what could you possibly need that much for?

I heard 5 GB of ram are actually slower than 2x2GB ram sticks because the OS can take advantage of the dual channel or some shenanigans like that; but that was on an OS X forum.

I heard good thing about the WD Scorpio hard drives... not sure about the rest.

my gateway laptop is two years old. one gig of ram, and still gets me 300+ fps. so idk. i bought it on sale at circut city for 399. and never wanted to buy anything else since. mine gets better specs then most comps now a days. and these newer ones have like 2 gigs of ram.

2gbs ram + vista = fail

vista needs 4 gb to be effective, futs im assuming you are on xp, where 1 gig of ram is plllllllenty

I installed Vista when it came out on my old (current) desktop... those were very painful days running Vista on 1 GB :throw:

I put xp back on and figured instead of putting more memory I'll just get a new computer someday... I'll have enough memory to run vista in the new one, actually I'm hoping to run windows 7 on it.

my (work) dell laptop is 3 years old core duo and it sucks... I think i got a lemon ... it heats up even when no doing anything...

Use it as a sandwich warmer. might even cook eggs.

Vista requires one gig of ram to run, so when you buy a computer, pretend like it only has -1 gig that is says.
