I'm deciding between two cars;

A 98 camaro

or a 2000+ Monte Carlo SS

My old roommate has agreed to sell me his 98 camaro; it has t-tops; grounds effects;CD-player;92k; Manual Transmission; its silver with navy racing stripes. the car gets 24+ mpg for what its worth. He's willing for 3500.00

However I planned on buying a Monte Carlo( its my favorite car ^_^) ; preferably a SS model, anything newer than 2000 from a nearby private seller..

My only dislike with the Camaro is that it is Manual Transition; I have yet to learn how to drive manual, and whats worse I'll be buying it closer to winter time. But I've already been in it and whatnot, the car is in PERFECT condition so know It will last me, were as the Monte will be more of a gamble.

So basically;

Camaro; + Style; T-TOPS!; will turn heads considering its decked out; Already appraised; cheaper
- Not alot of room; Manual tranny(depends),

Monte Carlo; + Tons of room for a 2 door; Versatile; Looks; Speedy
- Will be more expensive than Camaro 4000+ for a decent one; Could be crappy

Really I could go either way; I'm just kinda stuck, I feel that if i choose the Camaro It will be a much greater risk than the Monte.

Thoughts/Opinions?

You HAVE to be sure that you know how to drive manual before you buy a car (especially a REALLY nice car) that has it. Get a friend who drives a stick shift beater car to give you lessons, it's a totally different way of driving compared to automatic.

If you can't get the hang of it, go Monte. ;o

The camaro is a strong heavy and good vehicle.. but Gas is gonna fuckin killl youuuuu motherfucker eats gas like if it was going out of style o.o.. so go with the monte Wink

oh and dont let no one bullshit you Manual transmission in the snow is way better than Auto.
how ever if u want my opinion if u get a lot of snow try getting a 4WD SUV

Manual transmission is not a - . It's easy, and fairly quick to learn. Do not count that on your decision. I went from knowing absolutely nothing to driving a stick perfectly in less than a week.

On the other hand, if it's your favorite car, what else is there to consider?

69 Camaro! I know that isn't on the list but damn is it sexy. My friend has a 71 Camaro.

This is my friend Mario's car. He paid for it himself so don't think his parents did.

This is my other friend Tanner. This is his mustang.. he put zero dollars into his car not even a penny, his rich parents fixed it.

if u ask me if ur paying over 4K for the car i wouldnt get none of those l0l

i mean there's a lot to consider when ur buying a car o.o parts,gas,insurance,problems, and so on Chevy has a great motor no doubt but u have to ask ur self do i want something that spends a lot of money on gas or i just want something that looks eh and takes me from A to B with no problem and cheap on gas = ] my first car was a 1997 Ford Probe GT... 5 speed manual.. o.o omfg dude that car went to 300K miles not a single problem well changing the clutch n shit like that and it gave me 40 mpg go figure

Thanks For the Input;

I like both of the cars ALOT; Until my Roommate told me about it my First was going be a Monte, but the private sellers around here never go under under 4k for them; unless they are partly crappy. Right now I'm just leaning towards the Camaro because Its already practically mine, he's selling it for 3500 which I'm sure i can talk him down to 32.

If I Do Indeed buy a monte, It will undoubtedly have close to 90-100k and be 2000-2004 from what I've seen so far with the private seller. I'm just worried it might crap out on me later.. This is NY; most cars have been through winters or just badly treated. Which is why I'm limiting myself to 3-4k so i have plenty left over for fixes/adjustments. Also; I might not be able to even find one..

I've been reading up on manual transmission; honestly its something I want to eventually gets used to; Last year two of my buddies BOTH had firebirds, one a v-8 the other a v-6. they both stressed how.

"You have NEVER, driven a car. Until you haven mastered manual transmission"
I understand how to do it, I just never have. clutch;shift;gas. On a hill; its "Heel-and-toe" clutch-brake-shift; and gas?

If you want the first one more, (which by the sounds of things you do.) just buy an automatic transmission for it and get a mechanic to put it in. Smile

Easier said than done Sketch lol

I've only met two people in my entire life that can drive stick "perfectly." But, to get by, I would say you could learn in a week. As long as you understand the basics about it, and you don't go and ruin the clutch or blow the engine, or try and drag race in the first month or two, you should be fine. I personally don't like Chevys, but if it's what you want, go for it man.

24 mpg is fucking GOOD! I get 15! The only "gas guzzlers" are 20 and under as determined by the Government (i know i know, fuck those assholes lol)

Camaro

And dude classy manual shifting is easy buddy

listen for rpm sound or look at tach which i doubt it has but regardless

youll know when it s reving high when you shift

1.step on the clutch push it all the way to the floor

2.shift into the higher gear

3. easy off the clutch while giving it some throttle

4. get of the clutch and go throttle

GG

How could you not like Chevy's? I hate to be a party stomp-er for any ford lovers out there but I personally think chevy is way better than ford.

I like Dodge/Ford/Honda for your basic car companies. When you get into fancy shit I'd say Subaru Audi and Mazda. But for longevity, durability, and all around usefullness I think Ford beats Chevy...
