Contest...

Before I start.... there will be no prizes, at all.... ever. (unless someone wants to donate?)

Anyway. Im thinking about putting together a "mock wallstreet" contest.

Basically, theres a few websites out there, free ofc, that will give you "play money". It allows you to buy and trade in real time with the real stock market as do the financial "professionals".


Rule wise, all I can say for sure is that it will be a 30 day set up, and everyone will be given the same start date and end date... to keep it as fair as I can. More rules may come later.


I know the holidays are comming soon, so I wanna make sure theres some intrest in this 1st before we give it a go. Reply if intrested.

This is my attempt to get people more involved in world finance and the importance of money but more so.... how it works. My favorite class in school was businness finance so I wanna share something I found fun to learn in school... with others. Idealy... understanding the financial aspect of life will help quite alot of other things fall into place in the future.


Anyway... Post if u are intrested. This will be an automated, non-bias website that we all join together for tracking purposes.

I just did this a year ago in Economics class lol. I got 2nd place for buying a shitload of Smuckers XD I'll give it another go.

I will make a section for trading information, company information, ideas... anything that people want to post reguarding the "game". Also I will have a "portfolio" section for each player to help keep track of everyones progress.

ya i didn't have to do much in business class becuase i set my "company" up from day 1 lol. just dominated the class

I will jump in this even though I have no clue what I have to do but hey learning experience.

The Starting date will be Monday November 23rd. That way we can end it prior to Christmas and only have 1 trading holiday. If, during all of it, it is going well.... we may continue past the new year. Feb 1st is the beginning of the fiscal year, and typically a fun day for trading... so if interest is there, we can go on.

I dont have a set of rules yet but they are coming soon. I will need someone willing to co-host this event with me. They will be helping with the rules, and helping to understand the site prior to starting up. They will also help mod the section. If you would like to help, please post.... Ill pick someone. Please understand though, to help co-host this event... you really need atleast some what of an understanding about stocks, processes, and just the basics on how things work.

I will be posting the site we will be using on the 20th, friday... after the Wall street closing. I will assign everyone a user name they must use to participate. (Im doing that in case anyone would happen to have/make a name prior). That way we all start the same time, same day, same rules, same set up.

Suggestions: I would start looking into trends and companys you may want to have a part of.

Keep in mind "mos popular" company's like walmart, microsoft, coke-a-cola..... tend to keep a fairly flat stock price-wise. Just because you know the company name doesn't mean it will make you money.

Find a site that caters to actual investors for tips and ideas on certain companies. (I will post a list of sites I recommend in the section once its set up, but always look for yourself as well. Investment ideas are subjective.)

Diversify. This will be a rule once I find a way to word it properly. Basically.... don't put all of your money in one company. Spread your money around into multiple companies. This will help you learn to watch trends and look into company info.

You will be starting with $100K USD. This will be a US only stock trading event. After I get more info about the site, ill have more information. There won't be any margin buys, international stocks allowed (outside of the dow and nasdq)

Good news....

The site I think we are going to use actually has a private game setting. It also allows start and end dates, and locks out late entries.

Once I get more info ill send it out, but it looks like I may be able to set everything up tonight, and just set the start date. That wat everyone can get acclimated to the site.

The game set up I made will not let you start trading until the 23nd. I made the start date the 22nd so you can process trades that will start on market open the 23rd. All the rules and game settings should be in the game once you join.

All rules have been set in game so theres really only 1 outside rule....
You must uses atleast 30% ($30,000) by market close the first week. This is for 2 reasons. Partly due to not having people just sit on their money, also to confirm activity. I will be checking all portfolios
at the end of the 1st week, and remove anyone who hasent complied.
