Need help with my ipod please

Hey guys!!!
I decided to finally get to jailbreaking my ipod! Its a 3rd Gen with OS 3.1.2. I've tried using BlackRa1n but every time I do it the screen goes into a lit up blank screen for almost 15 mins. After that the ipod reboots but the app isnt on there. I've tried several ways to get this to work but still no luck. Can someone help me out plz?

Use redsn0w, it's incredibly simple, and the instructions take you all the way through. Remember to have a backup of your firmware though.

Thanks but thats the thing, when I use redsn0w I cant find my ipod when im browsing

You are not supposed to find the iPod, you're supposed to locate the IPSW, which is the iPod software. I believe you can get it by connecting your ipod and clicking "restore" in iTunes and then disconnecting your ipod, tho I'll double check for you.

I actually got that last night but now Im having a problem getting it past the step where it says to either have the ipod off or in restore mode. For some reason I cant get it to that point

Black rain worked perfect for me. Maybe a firmware difference with what u have on the ipod as far as black rain support? Im sure you checked that already....

The only problem I ran into with black rain is sometimes I would have to factory boot from itunes and reload everything... which takes a while. After going through all of it... even with free apps... I lost interest fast with jail-breaking. I went back to factory defaults and bought what I needed.
