Bitter rivals - PC vs. Mac

First topic message reminder :

So I thought this would be a good debate. Although I know 70% of you are going to defend PC. There are Mac users on this forum, clip_ being one of them. I am about 50/50.

I enjoy Windows for the gaming and programs.

On the other hand I enjoy browsing, downloading and watching pornography on the net without having to worry about viruses. (little joke on the end of that one).

Also enjoy the stability of the OS as to I don't have to worry about my 4+ hour PS project crashing even though I have to agree I should be smarter and save the file frequently.

BUT on the other hand Macs cost lots more and somewhat over charge but they have their pro's and con's.

Opinions?

They make so many because there's more PCs than Macs, I'd say that's something to be proud of.

That's weird because in the recent years Apple has gained a very considerable marketshare in personal computers, yet the number of threats remains about the same (active trojans that get slammed with Apple updates, but no real virus).

Yeah data.. that is quite a bad argument. There are a LOT of Macs out there. Only reason why PC has somewhat more is because they are CHEAPER.

Can't deny that the Mac OS is more stable and the quality of the computer is legit but price wise blows.

Around here, the only Macs are used for schools, and some are actually replacing them with PCs.

In my uni, just about half of the student body has a Mac; and from what I've read, that seems to be the case in many universities.

However this does not at all reflect the situation outside the student body, as not much people own Macs out here.

@pornfish you sir are correct about the university thing but also remember almost 80% of Graphic Designers, Video Editors and Sound Editors use Mac. I mean realistically most professionals use Mac just because they are more stable and such. If you notice in almost all the movies that have computers in them they are Mac's.

No one come at me saying that is untrue because it is not. But did I say there were NO PC's in shows/movies no because there is but most of the time which I would say is 90% of the time they are Macs.

Considering we bought a Mac because it was a smarter idea than just renting it from the school my sister went to, your statement is a bit invalid considering we obviously CAN get one but we still prefer PCs...

I think Joe was talking about the school system, not you personally. And if so, I agree with him. Mac's cost quite a bit and with all the government education cuts.... he's right. They can't afford it. I'd wouldn't be surprised if the cuts continue, they make student stand because they can't afford chairs or desks.

Yeah I was talking about corporations and schools in general not families.

This government is so fcked up. How are we suppose to expect better jobs and decrease unemployment when people aren't even getting a proper education.

The ones my High School had weren't that bad, only issue was the blocks they had on the gaming sites and YouTube, but I had my proxies.

My Dells are home built, so if there's an issue with it, it's mine or my dad's fault since we built them.

Most pre-built computers do. HP, Dell, Gateway, Compaq, Alienware all suck.. AW because they are expensive as hell and Dell makes them.

Building your own computer is the only way to go.

If it's home built, it's not a Dell really.

Dell is/was a company that basically was just an assembly. The cheap parts made cheap computers.

As with most companies like that, The brand is strictly who built it. None (or next to none) of teh components are from those companies, and they usually don't make anything... they just assemble. If you have a Compaq logo on the outside of a case, that just means they put it together. Same with Dell. Once you build the inside of the computer, the logo on the outside really means nothing. It's just a case.

The main parts used are from the respective companies. It's up to the building companies how well they put things together and the level of quality wiring/components they use. Dell was cheap because they used cheap parts to build them.....resulting in typically inferior computers. That doesn't mean the CPU was shit, or the HDD, or video card, or motherboard...... it just means they used crap peripherals to assemble it.... which they did. They skimped, and the brand got a bad name. And since they branded the computer, they were responsible for the support of the computer.

I built my computer from the ground up. The only difference if Dell had built the same exact thing is their logo on the case. If you take a Dell built computer and change the wiring, used better heat sink grease, and a few other things.... it would be a great computer.... they just used crap products.

Not my fault Dell uses low quality stuff to sell them cheaper to schools and companies.
I work with Dell at work & school in which they all blow hard core. The ones at my school always crash our projects and the ones at work just run like a Windows ME would.

You were using them for a web browser. You aren't running any major programs so why should you have a problem. If you are having a problem running youtube on your computer then just throw it out the window.

At work we use InDesign, InCopy and Photoshop and the computers are SLOW. At school we run 3Ds Max, Maya, InDesign, Illustrator, Photoshop, After Effects and pretty much any Adobe program and they are horrible as well.

I just have a HORRIBLE overall experience with Dell and they never work properly. My high school also had Dell by the way and we couldn't even run MS Word without something happening. Yes it was that bad.

Just cuz that's all I said, doesn't mean that's all I did...

It was a web-page design class at the vocational building and the computers were 8 yrs old. And in those 8 yrs, only 2 broke(both were ones I was on). One got some virus on it that would go to random porn sites when I was playing a racing game or watching a music video on YouTube, and the other burned some capacitors when I powered it up one day, not a pleasant smell...

Also, those computers played Quake 3(which was how I got into the game in the first place), Doom 2(I think), and Super Mario.

Oh, and I used the same computers for my American Legal Business and Law class(basically Government class) the yr before for Powerpoints and research papers.

Then there were the ones in the computer labs that were in the high school itself which were somewhat new(were the hand-me-downs from another high school in our county, like half the shit that's in that school...).

I mean, if you truly read my post, you'd see that my only issue was the blocks on sites. Just cuz I had 1 issue, doesn't mean I only did 1 thing on the computer...
