Could I get some help with QL

ok, idk whats going on but no matter what i do my ql cant get over 2 fps(literally), i tried using a cfg that smokey gave me, i think he said its the one vicious uses, but that didnt change anything, and its already on the lowest possible display settings.

so if anybody has any clue on wth is going on let me know plz.

the cfg i sent u last night i made with a generator... i used it and i kept 125 stable at all times... even on maps that give me slight fps drops with my original cfg... i would look into a cheap 128mb gfx card... if the one i had wasnt messed up i would send it to ya. it locks up when ever iit wants though, so its just gonna sit in the closet till i get tired of looking at it

just to add that card i posted, i played CoD4 on ALOT!!! without one pinch of FPS drop with the max FPS config i have.

thats the one i got, i might actually need a better psu, my guitar teacher has the same comp as me and put a nvidia geforce card in it but couldnt use it to its max cuz of his psu

well the one i posted dont use much power at all.. im running a stock powersupply, and i didnt have any issues with it...

dell arent... ALL BAD... i had a dimension 3000 i believe.. had 1gb ram, 80gb hdd, and the fastest pent 4 u could buy about 4 years ago... ran like a chief..

didnt you say something about the brand name doesnt matter and that its the same parts?

ahhhh, yes you did now, according to the statement above, i should be able to take any ibm product and plug it into any computer thats from the era and isnt an ibm and it work, but it wont, therefore, theres a hole in your story

plus too, if i take a brand new dell comp and a brand new alienware, the dell wont be able do all the things the alienware can, cuz they have slightly different parts, once again proving you have a hole in your story

modern computers use all the same parts, even apples use the same ones nowadays

cpu- intel or amd
memory- ddr, ddr2, ddr3
video card- nvidia or ati

etc etc

you're generalizing too much, obviously missing how technology has evolved and how anyone who uses a computer for basic stuff (like you) wouldn't have the need to fire up an old 84 ibm.... all this just makes you seem totally ignorant and useless. just because you have a point doesnt mean it relates to the matter at hand as much as another point.

they are nearly identical in EVERYTHING aside from name brand, and one has 1gb more memory (cba to find a perfect match)
they have the same type of memory, same hard drive space, same type of hard drive, same graphics chip, same size display, same processor, ETC ETC ETC

so it would be COMPLETELY ILLOGICAL AND IGNORANT for you to recommend one over the other because of the god damned "name brand"

Yes XPS is nice. I also know they own Alienware. Alienware is way over priced for the quality you get.

it's a stigma, there's NO factual base for the assumption.

dells are put together the exact same as different brands.. it's not dell's fault that idiots don't know how to take care of their computers.

Shadows right for the most part.... but not completely. Some companies do use cheaper parts in some instances eg: wires, power supplies, fans, minor components. And you can't forget that 2 companies can build teh same product using the same major hardware... yet one company's process is better. There is validity in branding when it comes to computers... but not because of the main parts used (which are typically the same as shadow said) but the integrity of 2 major things..... the capability to build the machine to pristine condition using the higher end minor components, and their customer service.

Dell got a bad wrap because their computer assembly made their products cheaper, but inferior in many ways. You can have top of the line hardware.... but if you assemble it with second rate wires, heat sync, cases, cooling systems, power supplies.... you will end up with a computer that doesn't run as well over a period of time..... even using the same parts.

So yes, in many ways branding is important.

As far as your Qlive issue.... I don't know if it was brought up but have you redone/reinstalled your nvidia drivers? I had the same problem when I redid my computer, and that fixed it.

i agree with you on the quality tad, however even if it is lower quality you can take care of it and achieve the same performance over time.

also, a BIG thing that slows computers down is the BS companies install on the computers before they ship em. always clean format before you judge!

Correct..... but that's why I am saying branding is important to quality. Not of the hardware, but the computer itself. Yes you could fix things up yourself and bring the integrity to higher level... but then that would make that brand inferior to ones you did not half to.

Thats how Dell and Gateway made a living.... Take name brand parts, skimp on the minor components, do a piss poor job putting them together, and ship them out... at a noticeably cheaper price. People thought they were getting a deal... yet had problems quickly.... even with top of the line hardware.

And I agree with the preinstalled software. My new laptop was caked with it..... But they make money that way whether you buy or not.
