I just found out you can donate to Un Techo para mi País, an organization I volunteered for once and it's kind of awesome. They build wooden houses for people who are essentially living in a scrap metal and generally improve living conditions in areas that suck.

I'll spam tabs when I go home.

I see you can pick what charity you want each day... but is there any more information? meaning, a tab is worth $?

It almost seems, on that page, this is a sales pitch to get people to DL chrome..... not really impact anyone in a big way. It lacks important information to let you know exactly what this is and what you are doing.

I don't mind doing it, but am I really helping anything?

From an email I got from the foundation I mentioned above, they get 1 dollar for every ten tabs.

Plus, the browser keeps tabs (tehee!) of the points you get and what exactly it amounts to.

At the end of the day Google has agreed to donating 1,000,000 dollars (for now) and basically it's letting the users decide where the money goes to. It's, of course, a gimmick to get you to download the browser, but they are not forcing you to keep it.


I'll do this because I know the organizations they're supporting have an impact. After hurricane Alex flooded Monterrey, Un Techo Para Mi País reached out to those left homeless and built them temporary shelters to get back on their feet. It can't hurt them if I send some free dollars their way.

I don't mind this, I set a little macro on my G15 keyboard, so all I have to do is leave my finger on it for 250 seconds or tape it down for 250 seconds. I did 250 today. Also I feel like I'm helping something.
