Hrm, I need assistance for once.

My new motherboard, a MSI 870A-G54, is not accepting my memory to run in dual channel. The memory worked fine in my old board, and I've already set up the new bios to accept it at its clocks and speeds. (9-9-9-24 , 1600 @ 1.65v) The memory is A-DATA AX3U1600GB2G9-2G.

The memory is working, I'm using it right now lol. It's just only running in single channel mode... Which is a real bitch and hampers the memory's performance.

Memory dimms are as so. For dual channel to function they should be in the same number. It wont post when memory is on a1/b1 or a2/b2. a1/a2 and b1/b2 are functioning tho, just not in dual channel.

Any ideas? change of pace 632927

I think Jared and smokey should create a detailed thread about computers.

How to pick out a good computer, describe the major parts a bit and what not so that everyone can learn something Very Happy

I don't know I would be stoked if you guys did but if not that is fine to =]

from what i read about that board... lots of people are having random issues... most are DOA.. or major boot problems after a month or 2... i would watch it ... u may need to return it for something similar but better... just my $.02

I think the problem is that your motherboard doesn't actually support 1600 ddr3 ram without overclocking the memory controller. This usually leads to some errors, although sometimes it will just read as 1333 mhz instead of 1600 if your memory controller isn't overclocked. There's not a whole lot of information about it, but you should probably look along those lines Smile

It says it runs 1333/1600 standard and up to 2k over clocked..... so it shouldn't be that, but maybe over clocking will allow it to read anyway.

I googled the board and it kept showing up 1600*OC which is why I suggested it, seems like it worked, gratz Rush Smile

I guess but there is a lot I don't know so if I don't know something exists how am I suppose to ask right?

Like I want to know what a better cpu is... obviously the i7 is the best that I know of right now but how do they work and how does ram work with the mother board. What is overclocking? Etc. Etc.

The basic idea is simple.....

Everything on a computer has a speed or rate in which it runs. This rate/speed is picked by the manufacturer to get the most out of their product with the least amount of problems. So something running at 300 ghz tested to be the max speed that will run the life of the product as long as the manufacture can get it to isn't the max speed the product can run. Almost everything in a computer can run past it's "manufactured suggested operating rate"..... changing that speed is to run at a higher rate is "overclocking".
