First topic message reminder :

I don't really "need" a new computer.... but I found a deal that was bad ass... and just added to it Smile

As for now, I think I will keep my Nvidia Gforce 9500 GT 1GB card and my 1TB WD HDD. This is the rest I'm getting, then I'll tell you the bundle price at the end....

Case:
http://www.microcenter.com/single_product_results.phtml?product_id=0348862

Processor:
http://www.microcenter.com/single_product_results.phtml?product_id=0327512

Motherboard:
http://www.microcenter.com/single_product_results.phtml?product_id=0334912

Ram:
http://www.microcenter.com/single_product_results.phtml?product_id=0354611

Im gonna get water cooling for the processor maybe, but that isn't needed.

The mobo has "core boost". The processor is only rated as duel core, but the core boost unlocks 2 more cores. The processor will run as a quad core.

Total price:

$314.00

Well, been talking about doing it, never did until now.

I was able to take my AMD Phenom X2 555 duel core processor and unlock the other 2 cores to make it a AMD Phenom II x4 955.... which oddly enough, is the one I went there to buy lol. But, buying the one I did saved me 60$... so I got the beter end of the deal.

For those who don't understand..... My AMD cpu is a duel core. Since it would cost too much for AMD to create duel cores and quad cores, they decided to make all their new processors quad cores, but they lock 2 cores for their duels, leve them all open for their quads. It was cheaper for them to have 1 machine type to make cpu's then 2. Fortunately for the end user, motherboard companies saw this as a way to sell their products better (although, some motherboards that don't promote unlocking cores, still can).

I got a board that was made to unlock AMD specifically. And it took all of about 10 seconds to get it to work Razz A few clicks, and I had a quad core although I paid for a duel. Perfection.

I'm running 3.2 quad now solid, although from what I read, I can run 2 at 3.8 and 2 at 4.0.....but I have no need to overclock.

Main reason I'm telling you all this is for anyone that want to upgrade or build a computer, theres a company that is selling the processor/motherboard combo right now for 150$..... you can't beat 150 for a 3.2 quad core and new mobo...

Nice one. I never liked AMD processors, but they DO kick ass for the price you pay.

I am an intel guy but Jeff and I talked on the phone about it and it is true that both are basically the same technology just different name. Anyways I completely forgot ATI was an AMD processor.. not sure how I forgot that but I did.

Intel has a better architecture which makes the CPU seem much faster.

The main difference b/w the 2 is FSB. Intel is always a step ahead so their processors are a bit faster in comparison. But realistically, for the price.... I'll stick with AMD.
