wow that's pretty close!

I think the way it "slingshotted" around once it passed earth could have something to do with earth's gravitational pull on it?

But if it had entered our atmosphere most of it would have burned up...? I know it's an asteroid (no ice to melt etc) not a comet but mightn't it still burn up?

I don't really know anything in this area but hey let's play the expert eh?

It's just knowlege isn't it? People want to know when the world was formed, they wan't to know when it will end. Its quite an obvious thing to want to know isn't it?

You want to know when you die? Knowing how it formed is cool how it ends is just some shit i rather leave unsolved.

It won't die when are are around.

I see your point, but it's so far away i don't think it's a problem. In fact humans will probably have screwed the place up long before any "apocolypse" starts happening (Evil or Very Mad)

Nice didn't know about this. If it did hit the Earth would it really end the world?

Maybe a stupid question but not quite sure if asteroid that small-ish could destroy the Earth.

Im here fairly often!

I'm no expert, but I don't think it would be anywhere near big enough to destroy the whole planet.

That is what I figured but it has to be moving at a very high velocity. I am sure it can do massive damage. I mean look at the AZ creator it was claimed to be 150 ft. asteroid traveling at 26K MPH and it did that much damage?

It doesn't have to destroy the entire planet, it could just be big enough to cause a major dust cloud that would block the sun out long enough for all the plants to die. When that happens, we lose our oxygen and die..

Na - a dust cloud simply blocks the sun, causing the atmosphere to lose heat.

I threw a big rock in the air today, it came down and hit the earth.

Didn't make the news papers though.
