An email I sent to yahoo about the "news" they had as "front page"....
To whom it may concern,
I would like to be the first (I really hope I am) to congratulate Yahoo! for the extraordinary coverage of the news on Monday, October 19, 2009. The main posted new article was meaningful, important and extremely titillating. (I hope that term doesn't offend anyone with breasts).
While the world is full of wars, unethical financial practices, unruly world leaderships, pestilence, famine, death, and an overall social breakdown... Yahoo! came through with 8 pictures of dots that seem to move..... but they actually don't!!!! (reference http://health.yahoo.com/featured/46/8-mind-boggling-optical-illusions/)
I mean no disrespect by any means, but I do have to ask...... was this the idea of your "night crew"? I mean, come on. Your text base topics were:
Iran suicide bombing kills 5 Revolutionary Guard leaders
Taliban vow to defeat army in Pakistan offensive Photos
Diplomatic wrangling delays Afghanistan vote decision
Adviser: White House awaiting finished health care bill
U.S. officials to issue new medical marijuana policy
Hurricane Rick weakens in North Pacific, still dangerous
Antioch tot falls 30 feet
Cupertino tests out its 'ARKs'
But the best you could come up with on the main posted "news" topic was 8 pictures that did the exact same freaking thing? Picture one.. "Dots that seem to move, but don't". Picture two..."Hey look a swirl. Ya, I know it looks like they are moving but they isn't!" Picture three "Back to freaking dots..... moving???? HA!!! I don't think so but you did, didn't you!" Picture four was a nice change.... "Sick of seeing dots move? Well heres a real treat......squares that don't move but you think they do!!!!!"
I look at the Yahoo! web-page everyday. I understand completely that the mundane and disturbing "news" isn't something that everyone wants to read all of the time. I know we all need a break here and there and it is up to Yahoo to cover some stories that aren't painful for your readers and I have seen Yahoo do that in the past. I have seen some clips on basketball shots that are insane, caught on video. High-school football team players, obviously hit in the helmet way too hard and too often, forget the rules of the game they are playing and take a mental "timeout" so the other team can win.... or my favorites... the photo coverages of some multimillionaire actor/actress during a red carpet even for charity that is dressed with less integrity then a rodeo clown during a practice run after a fifth of $5 scotch. Ya, those are fine fillers...... but 8 photos of non-moving/moving things?
If you would like some better new topics please... feel free to look me up anytime. I broke wind three times and had to change 4 crappy diapers yesterday........ you cant tell me that wasn't more news worth then the garbage you posted.
