My Qlive thread...

I have been a quake player for a few years. Mainly Q3A. I have a clan there and have really enjoyed not only the graphics but also the physics/speed of the game. From the idea, to the layout, to the game play.... ID, job well done. And as far as Qlive... over all it has exceeded my expectations on many levels. Once again a job well done. There will always be room for improvement in every game, this has it's challenges but over all I believe the game is well put together. Although, over all, I think it has a lot to learn about customer service and tending to it's target audience in general.... but I understand it's still "beta"... for what thats worth.

My concern is simple. I was under the impression that there was a "rule" banning racist talk or terms. I honestly can't remember a game I have played that I have not seen the "N" word being thrown around like it was comical. I assume most of, if not all, are "kids"..... but who knows now-a-days. Kids are not as aware of that impact, so I hope its all kids and not adults... but who knows.

Anyway, as far as I know, there is no way to "steal" a name.... no way to spoof someones name... so I have a simple suggestion... Make an email strictly requesting screen shots of people using racist terms via binds or chat. Those people using those terms should have a punishment up to and maybe including a ban. This is really a serious problem. I truly believe ID did not start this project to have things just be a "elite players that we care about, and screw everyone else" type of thing. Your target audiance is the general public... not just the tournement players that can bring you publicity. I hate to see a company forget it's moral standards for a few bucks.

I really suggest this is something ID looks into and creates an email or a detication to some way to eradicate....

I'm more concerned about the lack of tech support, maps, servers, spawns, and fixing the "acclaimed" skill ranking system. Right now the game isn't "beta", its fucking broken. If they really don't want to keep this alive, kill it! Give everyone links to a standalone Q3 (free, cuz ql was free) and that will be the end of it. Perhaps make a new point release, that includes the features of QL (for the most part), and BE DONE. They need to stop wasting everyones time and either do something or give up.

My opinion... people asking for more maps/server types/ or anything that causes them to actually graphically work to add to the game... is selfish. Think about it really.... in 1.16 there is how many maps? and we play dm7. In qlive there are even more core based maps... and most prefer dm6. Thats the nature of the game really. People play some maps better then others so stick to them. I don't see any reason they should add more maps... cause when they do.... guess what... people will ask for more maps. Theres no fix for it.

But with my argument it is something they can fix. Easily.

That point is moot because quake 3 is an open game, you can mod it, you can add maps, you can make maps, etc.
The .16 thing is moot as well, the .16 community is ONLY alive because of the compatibility with demo and dreamcast users, thats IT. Demo has 4 maps, dm7 is the best/most popular one, do the math. Quake live is based off of .32/TA which was known for the diverse amount of maps, then they do this.

Also, have you seen how many requests for hub3aeroq3 there have been?...

Basically, adding maps would make ql more like cpm, which has a BOATLOAD of maps for EVERY gametype... if they want everyone to "progress" to ql, they should cater to that.

Demo is moot... since most servers promote NG. Not all pub's do, but almost to all private/scrims do.... thats just 1.16 though. I cant speak out side of that in q3.

And from what ive seen... there is NO real quake tourney promoted that have any outside maps... nor will there be. CMPA, OSP, all that are great... but it's not an ID written program. Its the same as any q3 engine game really... just those are more geared to the actual game. If "they" didnt make it... they cant make money to promote it with out sharing. No company will do that. They would sooner buy them out... and it seems the qlive division is broke..

They hired arQon the creator of cpma, he's now working on ql if my info is correct...

just saying, they have the tools there, just gotta put the effort in
