So I thought this would be a good debate. Although I know 70% of you are going to defend PC. There are Mac users on this forum, clip_ being one of them. I am about 50/50.

I enjoy Windows for the gaming and programs.

On the other hand I enjoy browsing, downloading and watching pornography on the net without having to worry about viruses. (little joke on the end of that one).

Also enjoy the stability of the OS as to I don't have to worry about my 4+ hour PS project crashing even though I have to agree I should be smarter and save the file frequently.

BUT on the other hand Macs cost lots more and somewhat over charge but they have their pro's and con's.

Opinions?

I agree that macs are expensive and aren't the best for gaming, but a lot of games are coming out for macs now. For example, steam opened up a wide variety of their games to Mac and I'm sure there will be more to follow. Also, as a guy who has watched plenty of porn, I can say that not once has a virus ever attacked me (totally not a joke at the end of that one).

@Clip_ I don't know but something about Mac, I just don't like them expanding to the gaming field. Just doesn't feel right and I think PC handles games better as well as has better games.

@Rush I do have to agree. Linux is insanely bad ass. Although wait for smokey's opinion on Linux. Quite a few people knock down Linux. I loved it, only problem I had with it was you have to one learn a new OS and two you have to learn extra stuff to do things that window can.

I don't see why they have to be rivals. There's some people whose usage of a computer fits better with a Mac and some that fit better with a PC. For example, I use a Mac because I prefer the OS, makes it easier for me not having to deal with any computer troubles even though I was very Windows saavy when I used it compared to the regular user. It's just that I'm lazy and would rather no longer do the maintenance of a Windows computer and Macs do everything I need them to do.

I get bored quickly with games, and in Uni I don't want to play because I lose too much time, so it's a non-issue for me.

However, there's people that definitely are a better fit for a PC, like gamers and some programmers and such.

I always recommend the Mac to adults who can afford one, since they are less tech saavy and the Mac fits them better. However the prize difference is really considerable so that draws a lot of people towards the PC (even though most of them infest them with virus within weeks).

Well lets face the fact they are rivals. Mac is coming out with commercials knocking down PC all the time. Competition for companies are good. Either way I really like Mac's because like you said they require less tech support.

Yeah that was probably a bad choice of words from my side. They are rivals as companies, they do not have to be for us the consumers: it's not the either/or issue most people in the internet make it out to be.

I bet that a healthy percent of Mac users slap Windows on their Macs sooner or later for different reasons; and that Microsoft actually makes more money from that license than from the sale of a new PC.

I don't see the need to define yourself as a Mac guy or a Windows guy. I'd say if you have the money and want to try a Mac go ahead, if you need Windows for something slap it in; nobody's going to judge you.

I agree. I think Mac's are great computers but there are the stubborn people that "hate" Mac for stupid invalid reasons in my opinion.

Did you just compare a Mac to a coloring book?

Linux has no place in a consumer OS debate because as it comes preinstalled in very few computers it makes virtually no impact in the computer-buying decision you have to take. It's an after market OS and let's face it, it sucks for the every day user.

If linux users want to put themselves in a pedestal because "we do it the hard way damnit!" and get very few real-world usage benefits (versus a lot of effort they have to put in compared to other OS's), go ahead but they aren't fooling anyone but themselves.

In my humble opinion PC's are better then MAC's currently simply because of support. They are starting to try to catch up by supporting steam games now but they are still far behind. The OS makes no difference to me I prefer windows simply for looks. I also build my own computers and I do not think they are too into that over there.

In my personal opinion, Macs are too...artsy. They're more for creating things and something to toy around on. My sister's school required us to buy a MacBook, and at one point the screen cracked. Apple wanted $700 to replace the screen when the whole thing cost $1,100, that's more than two thirds the cost of the whole thing and it goes on the screen alone? Can anyone say "highway robbery?"

I Just got here!

Been a while since ive replied on here...
In my opinion, PC's are alot better since they are more versatile, are cheaper, and for people that say "PC's get tons of viruses" i have never gotten a virus. Ever. Mac's are better for design and music making, simply because they come preinstalled with the software, but it comes at too high a price. Macs have a long way to go to catch up in the gaming realm. There computers arent a really stable platform for the professional gamer. One reason being that the airflow is terrible inside of Macs since they are very compact. IMO PC wins hands down.

Because kill mentioned the virus thing, I'm gonna throw my 2 cents in on that.

The reason that PCs get more viruses is because more are made for them. More are made for them because there are more of them in the world.

Yes BUT I am not sure if you heard as of lately that people are trying to target Macs. There are quite a few Macs out there now days. Also I don't know what it is about Mac screens but they always look way more clear then pc's. For designing they are magnificent, in fact I am trying to acquire one at the moment for designing. Their computers always seem like they are great quality. For example my Asus computer casing is made of plastic as to where the Mac Book pro is made of metal. Also the iMac computer keyboards are awesome.

Mac screens, just like any and all other Apple product's screens, are made of glass while PC screens are made out of plastics and polymers. This makes them easier to break, but clearer and, for their touch-screen products, more responsive.

Im here fairly often!

It's a little harder to make viruses/spyware/malware for macs but is completely possible, the reason there is less of them is because people who make automated programs to make servers for things like RATs and keyloggers are made for windows, making a mac one would have to be done purely through programming, and with such little ratio of spreading the virus onto mac's it wouldn't be worth doing unless your targeting a specific audience ("free mac games website or something? Razz). Just because somebody is using a mac they should still realize that if somebody wanted to, they could easily be targeted and have all their information stolen the same way normal computer users do. That's all I wanted to say about the whole "oh my mac is so pro becuz it dont have any viruses!"
Also why would you be required to buy a mac... Totally stupid. Having the OS on a normal laptop as it's main or secondary operating system would work the same way, but would be better price per performance, heck paint it white if you want it to look cool lol. You could even build your own laptop the same way computers are made, as long as you can find a seller of laptop parts (internet) and you could even use a metal casing too.

It's a private school, and all the teachers and "important" people involved with the school are familiar with Macs more than PCs, and it's a "status" thing apparently.

She in college?

Either way I agree that you can get a virus on a Mac just the odds are on your side of not getting one. But like I said the quality of Mac's are quite a bit better than pc although they do cost a bit more.
