Bitter rivals - PC vs. Mac

First topic message reminder :

So I thought this would be a good debate. Although I know 70% of you are going to defend PC. There are Mac users on this forum, clip_ being one of them. I am about 50/50.

I enjoy Windows for the gaming and programs.

On the other hand I enjoy browsing, downloading and watching pornography on the net without having to worry about viruses. (little joke on the end of that one).

Also enjoy the stability of the OS as to I don't have to worry about my 4+ hour PS project crashing even though I have to agree I should be smarter and save the file frequently.

BUT on the other hand Macs cost lots more and somewhat over charge but they have their pro's and con's.

Opinions?

Either way I agree that you can get a virus on a Mac just the odds are on your side of not getting one. But like I said the quality of Mac's are quite a bit better than pc although they do cost a bit more.

No, she's not in college. There are private elementary, middle, and high schools out there.

What does she need it for?

One reason, of many, that there are more virus' for PC is because all people are doing is altering other virus' that are already made. People exploited PC's due to the fact that's all most people had. Not many had Macs when the "virus/antivirus revolution" really started.

I personally believe the "shells" of most of the virus's made were made either directly or indirectly by companies like McAfee and Norton. They never hid the facts they employ so called "reformed hackers" to help write their programs.

What better way to sell your products then to give the public a "need" for it. Now that Apple has really taken on the elitist persona, they will start getting the same attention when it comes to virus's then PC has.

@virt: As you probably well know, public schools have computers there for students to use funded by the city, county, or state. Private schools not being funded by a gov't, but by a person/group of people don't always have the money required for that, so they have the family buy a computer that they are familiar with. At least that's my best guess on why this private school in particular did it, idk anything about any of the other private schools around me, I went to public school and kept it simple.

@nodata: I know this is a different debate in it self but I want to clarify this. I am not sure where you live and how it works where you live but in California, private schools are the ones with all the god for saken money. While public schools don't have shit hence the fact the government is poor. We lost our CIF Championship in football due to the fact the school we played was a private school and they recruited players for their team.

It depends on the private school. There are a lot in Tennessee, some have LOADS of money, and some don't. The one that my sister's going to doesn't have that much money, in fact, they split the school in 2 parts. Elementary and middle school are inside of a church and the high school portion is inside of a local(and private) college. They don't even have their own school building(anymore).

Apple just seems to like making people feel superior by making their Macs incompatible with general products so you have to buy theirs. >.> Pro marketing?

I don't really notice a difference besides more pictures and less words on macs and the compatibility difference.

Ok well why dont you fraps Crysis 2 on your mac and ill do it on my pc and we will see who wins. PC. i'll spend less money for a better computer. you'll spend $2000 on a metal case. My computer will have an original look. your mac will look like everyone elses. Standard.

@silent: No, you have it wrong. Macs are built for the designing side. If you haven't noticed most movies and professional artists use Mac's. Windows is designed more for programmers and gamers. Hence why most of us will side with PC.

@k!llampt: If you ever look at a Mac you will notice the screens look a lot clearer. It is because Apple renders their screens at a higher res. Either way read what I just wrote to silent. You just took the strength of a PC and try to compare it to a Mac. Which on the other hand is like comparing apples and oranges.

You can do more with a PC with more ease than you can on a mac. Yes they are good for art and music creation. In fact when i was in my Drawing 3 class i used a mac to create some images to work from. They are excellent for photoshop and surfing the internet. but thats about the limit of their capabilities. If i want to spend $2000 on something artsy, ill buy a painting. Mac is way overpriced for the product they offer(unless you strictly want to do designing and look at porn all day, in which case....get a life). Final verdict PC eqauls a cheaper better computer overall.

Macs are for queers and people on the edge of becoming one. No more needs to be said.

Get a life? I design and that is what I am studying in college. So I really hope that get a life comment was more directed to the porn part and not the design.

yea i shoulda been more specific(it was directed at the porn part lol.) but like i said great for design.. thats it. Im sorry but a single use product can not be better than one that has far more capability. People say if you have the money get a mac.... mac is a brand. overpriced. simple as that. you can buy a zune or any other mp3 that has more capacity than an ipod but the ipod is more expensive? why? because apple just does that. PC has more capability than mac, yet mac's are more expensive.

Well Mac can run PC through boot camp so in a way it can do quite a bit that PC can.

But why would Mac users want to run a PC style through... because like amp said, more options. Some times stability and a small amount of products being superior doesn't make the over all better. PC's are more vulnerable, but yet easier to fix. I would rather spend $500 and another $500 in the next 3 years to maintain, then $1,000 out of the gate and maybe another few hundred for maintenance.

You would be surprised how many companies by a Mac and install Windows on it.

Just my personal views, but I only see a Mac being useful as an aquarium(yes, there are people who actually do that, dunno why tho...).

Well if you were designing and used a mac you would know the difference lol

but this is mainly for compatablility, so file types and that don't get in the way. It is just overall the easiest soloution, for infinite reasons.


also many mac users i have talked to say macs are much more ergonomic and intuitive to use... but i have simply found that they give you less control over what is happening (infuriating!)
