I'm here way too much!

First topic message reminder :

If any of you haven't been reading up on what's currently going on in the Playstation scene pertaining to the Playstation 3 console as of now, here's a few things to get you caught up to the basic level.

George Hotz was sued for bypassing the security in his own playstation 3 console that he paid for, and distributing the exploit on the internet. this, in time, kickstarted the ps3 hacking scene, with lawsuits, custom firmwares, jailbreak dongles, DMCA takedowns, and bans everywhere.

as of a few days ago, a group, announcing themselves as "Anonymous" has taken down
Sony.com (now back online though unfortunately) and Playstation.com (still down as of a few hours ago)

More Information found here: http://www.nextgenupdate.com/forums/playstation-3-exploits-hacks/363916-anon-brought-down-sony-com-playstation-com-cause-behind-maintenance.html

announcement:

i, to be honest, fully support what they're doing. Sony has done quite a few things to piss people off, i believe it's time they got a taste of the anger that we (the consumers) feel toward them for the unlawful removal of an advertised feature (OtherOS support), among other feature removals/security failures (the credit card leaks).

not that it really matters to me. the free games offer is definately compensation enough IMHO.

Playstation store is still down though. they said some services are still under maintenance for a few more weeks.

Any content you get for free will be available only during your subscription time, any content you download and pay for taking advantage of the discount is yours to keep. Seems fair to me, either way you get at least 1 month of free games.

Im here fairly often!

Isn't enough compensation at all... Everybody's who has ever signed up to PSN probably has their information sold by now to sneaky russians. Just saying.

I don't have a PS3. Peoples information is worth money too. You should take identity theft more serious.

i got that email as well, even thouth it's useless to me because everything i used for my psn accounts was fake information, cause sony requires you to give them your address and i didn't feel like divulging such information, but it doesnt matter, at least they show that they care about their customers.

It wouldn't have effected you then anyway. If you didn't use the right address, you wouldn't have been able to use a credit card.... hence, you wouldn't need any protection really.

by the way, the "welcome back" program is on now and PSN store is usable again. downloading Infamous and Dead Nation for free as i type. 30 free days of PS+ is still BS imho, cause games purchased with PS+ become unusable after the 30 days expires

Sonypictures.com was hacked. I can't help but feel sorry for Sony for being the "it" target right now.

sony still has a bullseye painted on their ass because a lot of people see what they did to graf and geohot as wrong. i'm sure all these attacks are likely going to continue on for a couple years or so, or until whoever's doing it gets bored.

Sony has released a revised forecast for the now-finished fiscal year, noting that the company is expected to post a $3.1 billion loss, instead of the $857 million in profits forecasted back in February.

"Based on information currently available to Sony, our currently known costs associated with the unauthorized network access are estimated to be approximately ¥14 billion ($171.4 million) the fiscal year ending March 13, 2012," Sony explained on a slide describing its losses. This does not include costs associated with lawsuits filed against the company, as the outcome of that litigation is hard to estimate for either side.

The rest of the loss being from the Japan earthquake.

Makes me wonder how many people will lose their jobs around the world because some assholes felt "opressed" by Sony.

That's without counting the latest hacking of Sony Music Japan, Netherlands, Belgium and Brazil.

Also, I really doubt this will go on for a "a couple years"... I doubt the attention span of the internet will even make it past this summer.

i know there's a rumor going around as well that the PSN/SOE hack was an inside job, because they had recently fired off 200+ employees and not even a month later, they get breached. but yeah, sony's gonna get hit hard with the losses. they're a longstanding company though, i don't think this will affect them all that badly.

It's so ignorant that the people that are doing the hacking think they are making some sort of impact though. They aren't on Sony. They will make a profit no matter what.

When it comes down to brass tacks, Sony cares about 1 thing.....their bottom line. Their financial intake is what benefits the share holders who ultimately own the company. The board is in place to make Sony turn as large of a profit as they can.....if they don't, they are fired and someone else steps in.

So, Sony stands to lose millions due to this....so who pays for it? First is typically the employees. Mass layoffs, hiring freezes, and promotion lock outs. If that doesn't do it, then the consumer ends up flipping the rest of the bill by higher prices, less support, and lower quality production.

So in all reality, this "let's get Sony" for personal and completely ignorant reasonings stands to make an impact that goes way beyond "but I want to be able to hack my system.,......although I agreed not to".

But I guess what can you expect from these types of hackers. You want to stand up for them, back them, set them on a pedestal as heros...that's your right.... but don't think for 1 second they are doing any of this to stand up for you or protect your rights, or do some just thing. They are selfishly attacking a company out of spite for their own personal reasons.

These hackers aren't martyrs...... they are ass hats that are trying to get kicks out of illegal activity and benefit themselves, only.. I hope they all burn.
